Website Redesign and Upgrade

June 1, 2010

A new version of the President of Russia’s official website has been launched.

Key content innovations:

  • Subject-based arrangement of content. All website materials are given a set of tags, which can be viewed by clicking the ‘subjects’ at the top or bottom of each page. Some of the materials are listed on the ‘current agenda’ – a selection of materials on the most topical issues and top priorities for the state authorities’ work.
  • The institutional section called ‘The State’ contains information about government institutions and presidential consultative bodies. Though similar in many ways to the ‘Institutions’ section in the old version of the website, this new section offers updated information on what is going on in the Presidential Executive Office and in the presidential commissions and councils.

Key technical innovations:

  • The website’s social dimension gained more significance thanks to the possibility of adding materials to various social networks and bookmark services.
  • The new 16x9-format video player makes it possible to upload HD (high definition) format videos. The player also reproduces traditional 4x3 format videos. The player and the videos can be inserted in blogs.
  • The basic audio player can also be inserted in blogs. There is also a mini-player version that is used for all website materials with an audio file available.
  • The WAP version is a portal for telephones and smartphones broadcasting news, transcripts and photos.
  • SMS-alert service delivers top news headlines to your telephone or other mobile device as they appear on the website. You can also subscribe to receive important content updates (publication of full transcripts, for example).
  • A special large-print version of the website for the visually impaired has been created in accordance with the national standard, Internet Resources. Access Standards for the Visually Impaired.

English version of the President of Russia’s website and related Internet resources:

This web portal is the result of collective work of many web site designers, software programmers and engineers. The amount of contracts to develop the portal, including its English-language version, stands at 4,028,217 rubles (including VAT).
